December Paper Doll -- Mrs Claus, Outfit 3

Our lasso-wielding country cowboy Santa needs a square dancing Mrs Claus, don't you think?

I sure do!

For those of you who don't know, one of my hobbies (my husband says obsession...!) is family history research.  I'm incredibly lucky to have all four of my grandparents at the ripe old age of 35.  My father's parents are great-great grandparents with 5 living generations!  As a result of this hobby, I ask a lot of questions about my family.  Apparently my father's parents were square dancers in their rural Vermont town in the 1960s.  That was my inspiration here.

I don't know if this is actually a square dancer's dress but that was the inspiration.  Not only did I create the pattern for this one, but I created the lace edge brush, too.  If anyone is interested in Illustrator, I'd be happy to write up a tutorial about how to make brushes.  It's fun and pretty easy.

Right-click and download today with a pdf of the collection coming at the end of the month.

If you're looking for the dolls, you can grab them here.

    1. My Mrs Claus is inspired in part by Betty White: a little bit sweet old lady and a lot of sass!

  2. I love the lace edging on the skirt. Lace regularly flummoxes me.

    1. I had a commission a while back where I had to figure out how to make lace for one of the toddler dolls. I found the method that worked was to create one panel and make it a pattern brush in Illustrator. Worked great so I've been doing that for lace or trim ever since. You might be able to develop a brush in Photoshop using a similar method. I've honestly never tried, but now I kind of want to!
