Kawaii Kids - Monster and Devil

In college, I studied a lot of things.  I'd probably STILL be in college, taking every class, if I could! My major was art history and I worked on a minor in English. I came up one class short of finishing it....not the end of the world, but it still bugs me.

As part of my studies, I took an entire class devoted to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.  I love that book! I love what I learned during that class! I HATE when people call the monster "Frankenstein".  Just a thing that annoys me.  We all have them, after all.

Today is the last of the Kawaii Kids Halloween posts.  I want to close it out with another classic, cute set of costumes.  I went with Frankenstein's monster and a devil.  It was fun to go back & work with these paper dolls again.  Hopefully you enjoyed it, too.  Have a happy, fun, safe Halloween.  I know my two monsters & I will!

Kawaii Kids - Vampires

Today I have the third Halloween Kawaii Kids costume set! I wasn't sure exactly what to do today.  My kids get a lot of the commercial costumes of their favorite characters, movies, etc, but I didn't want to do that with these paper dolls.  I wanted more classic, universal ideas.

So today we have vampires!

I like cute Halloween costumes.  There's this push for kids to have costumes that are way too adult, in my opinion.  It's nice to let kids be kids for a while.  I was shooting for cute vampires with this set & I'm pretty happy with it.

There's one more Kawaii Kids Halloween set next week.

And if you haven't seen the preview for my December paper doll, check it out.  I'm taking requests for angel costumes so feel free to share yours!

Kawaii Kids - Kitten and Werewolf

Today is the next installment of the Kawaii Kids Halloween black & white paper dolls. I'm going to admit something -- I kinda phoned this one in.

You see, we went to a small, local theme park over the weekend with my parents.  My sons (they're 6 and 4) still have a terrible habit of putting their hands in their mouths/noses/eyes.  We had a great time but my kids came home with the plague because of that aforementioned affinity for hands in mouths.  My oldest had a stomach bug on Monday.  My youngest got it Tuesday.  And I got it Wednesday.  And when Mom is sick, the world comes to a halt.  Granted, my husband has always been a very equal partner in parenting, but having one adult down is no fun for anyone.

So I ended up modifying/re-purposing a couple of paper dolls to create this one.  Next week, I'll try a little harder :)  And if you're looking for more of my Halloween paper dolls, use the search bar on the side -- there are TONS of them!

Kawaii Kids - Happy Halloween! Witch and Wizard

I mentioned it a couple of times and here it is! There will be some Kawaii Kids for the month of October.  I didn't realize the Kawaii Kids were as old as they are -- I feel like I made them yesterday! (Time has been messing with me lately....)

For those of you who are new to the Kawaii Kids, there are a ton of them and they are all interchangeable. I had a request through DeviantArt (which I rarely look at) for more Kawaii Kids and that was the inspiration for a Halloween series.  It's fun to play with something old and make something new with it!

There isn't a pdf this week.  If anyone wants a pdf, I'll put one together at the end of the series.

Kawaii Kids - Superhero

I have another Kawaii Kids paper doll for this Monday.  I decided on superheros this week. My boys LOVE superheros right now.  The kids in my life (my sons & my nieces) often inspire me to create the paper dolls & themes featured here.

Maybe I'll print these and color them with my kids today, too!

Enjoy!

Kawaii Kids - Business

I didn't have a lesson ready today, and on the Mondays when that happens, I'll post a Kawaii Kids doll.  This week, I'm working through the suggestion list and it's business suits!  As with all of these dolls, the clothing fits both dolls.  I decided to make one skirt and one pants suit for the girl.  I always preferred a pants suit versus a skirt back when I had a "real" job.  Not that raising kids & running the household (and somehow managing a meager freelance career) isn't "real" work, but I don't report to an office.  So no more suits of any sort for me!

I'm also putting all of the Fairy Tale Friday dolls into a book.  I want it to be a awesome collection of fairy tale & folk tale themed dolls.  I'd love some suggestions!

I've already made: Goldilocks, the Frog Prince, the Little Mermaid, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Beauty (of Beauty & the Beast), Prince Charming, Cinderella, and Snow White.

Here are the rules for submission:
1) Either a male or female character is fine
2) Preferably a prince/princess/protagonist kind of character.  I won't be including villains in this set.
3) Literary sources would be great (public domain is best).  So Dorothy and Alice are ok; Merida and Jasmine of Disney fame would not.
4) Multi-ethnic is great, too.  I have a pale skin/blond hair prince, a medium skin/black hair prince, a pale skin/dark hair princess and a dark skin/dark hair princess.  All clothing sets will be interchangeable.

If I include your idea, I'll send you something.  I don't know what yet - maybe a PDF of the book, or a physical copy of the book.  Something along those lines.  I'll probably mention this a few more times as I work on the book, so feel free to do some research!

That was quite a ramble - here's the business dolls!

Kawaii Wednesday - Fairies

Again this week, I turned to my request list for a Kawaii Kids theme.  Fairies sounded like a nice one, so that's what we've got.  I wanted a woodland sort of fairy.  The boy has an acorn hat and the girl has a leafy "crown".  I love her dress!

I love getting requests and if anyone has any suggestions, I'm always happy to here them (in the comments or email or whatever - there are a bunch of ways to contact me).  I haven't made the jump to a Facebook fan page yet.  I'm not sure if I can manage another thing!

Anyway, enjoy the last few weeks of summer.  As you can see with these woodland fairies, I'm already thinking about fall!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Puppies

I'm still working through the list of costume requests I received earlier this year, and this is one of those.  Dogs aren't my favorite animal or pet or anything, but puppies ARE kind of cute and I know lots of kiddos like puppies.  Today's paper doll is a puppy themed one.  Have fun coloring it!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Science!

I love science and science fiction.  I don't always understand it (my husband would disagree) but I love it all anyway.  Most of my friends are scientists, so I have a soft spot for lab coats!  So today, we've got a science paper doll to color!

Again, I'm having some difficulty posting the PDF.  I upload the PDFs to my portfolio site and have a link here to download them.  For the second week in a row, I can't access the inner workings of my portfolio site.  I may need to change my method of sharing files.  Til then, download the image file in this post.

Have fun coloring!

Kawaii Wednesday - Dancers

My son just started his first activity - a tumbling class!  He's the only boy & loves it.  So today we've got a dancer paper doll.

I'm having some technical difficulties regarding with the pdfs.  PDF is all set and ready to download! You can click & save the image file posted below.  I'm hoping to get it sorted out today but we'll see!

Til then, try printing from the image and have fun coloring!

Kawaii Wednesdays - July 4th Paper Doll

I can't believe it's already July! Time must be moving faster or something.... This week, here in the States, we're celebrating our independence.  I'm not sure if I'll get a doll up on Friday - we have family visiting for the whole weekend.

Just in case that doesn't happen, here's a little pre-4th paper doll to print out & color.   Have a fun and safe holiday!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Cinderella

Last week I posted a Beauty & the Beast Kawaii Kids doll.  I think a short series of fairy tale Kawaii Kids is in order!  Today I have Cinderella and her Prince Charming.  My nieces love these dolls, so I keep them in mind every time I make one.  My youngest niece loves Cinderella, so this one is for her!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Beauty and the Beast

Things are starting to settle back into a routine around here!  I was eager to get back to creating after the chaos of last week.

These week, I have a fairy tale Kawaii Kids paper doll.  There will probably be many more.  Fairy tales seem to really resonate with kids and seem to pop of everywhere lately (including a whole lot of my work!) so why not in this series too?!

Today it's a Beauty and the Beast paper doll.  Have fun coloring it!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Rainy Days

Today's installment of the Kawaii Kids is another request I received.  It seemed right to make a rainy day paper doll for today.  The weather in New England has been amazing and that streak ended today.

Rainy days just mean more time for paper dolls!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Pirates

I don't know about anyone else, but I totally lose track of what day of the week it is after a long weekend!  As a result, I forgot to post today's doll.  My mind thinks it's Tuesday, even though it's really Wednesday!

The mermaids last week were adorable (if I say so myself!) and I thought I'd keep with the beach theme and make pirates!

Have fun coloring!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Mermaids

My nieces are going on their first beach vacation next week.  I thought, what could be more fun than coloring paper dolls on the beach?!  Today's Kawaii Kids paper doll is for them -- mermaids!

Usually, I have a boy & a girl in each of these Kawaii Kids sets.  This week, I decided to make it just girls.  If you want to have a little mer-boy, the tail will fit on any of the boy dolls.  I just figured girls were more interested in mermaids than boys. I'm basing that entirely on my sons versus my nieces so I could be totally wrong!

And I'll resume posting the Wicked Women walkthrough next Monday.  I took this Monday off to recover from my fun birthday weekend.  My husband & I spent the day wandering Boston - we walked something like 6 miles! It was a great birthday and we had a lot of fun, but it was tiring :)

Here's the mermaid set!  Enjoy!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Astronauts

My birthday is coming up this weekend and I decided to do celebrate with some paper dolls!

It's no secret that I love art (obviously!) but the other thing I love is science.  It's fascinating.  I struggled with math so I never excelled or learned as much as I would have like in my science classes.  Regardless, I've always loved space and science fiction.  So this week's dolls are all space themed.

Today's Kawaii Kids set is a pair of astronauts.  I love these!  And if you like science, space, or sci-fi, and are of a certain age, you are going to love Friday's doll.  It's been a year in the making and that's all I'm going to say about that!

Have fun coloring these astronauts!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Karate

This week's Kawaii Kids paper doll is karate themed.  And that's about all I have to say about that!

I'm thinking about coloring some of the Kawaii Kids and assembling them into a book.  What I've discovered is this is going to be a challenging task.  I created these in Illustrator and sometimes I made a line where there should have been a shape, or used a dreaded clipping mask to eliminate a background.  Now that I want to color these, all of these little shortcuts are getting in the way!  There's always something new to learn, and some new mistake to learn it from!! I'll keep you posted on my progress....

Here's the Kawaii Kids - Karate paper doll.  Enjoy!

Kawaii Wednesdays - King and Queen

I was asked to create a prince & princess Kawaii doll.  Since I already did that, I decided to create an Elizabethan style king & queen.  If you're looking for historical accuracy, these are not it!  I just whipped something together without references, because sometimes that's what I want to do!

Here's the Kawaii King & Queen.  Have fun coloring!

Kawaii Wednesdays - Flowers

Today's dolls are supposed to have outfits constructed out of flowers & leaves.  The boy has a Robin Hood style hat and that's probably my favorite part! I'm not sure the outfits totally worked but I liked it well enough to post it.

I'll have another doll up on Friday & I'll be starting Wicked Women over the weekend so some of that should be up for Monday. I'm still taking request on media -- watercolor or Photoshop!

Here's the Kawaii doll:
